Press and Media
Bookgroup Info is the leading independent website providing information
for and about book groups. Our monthly e-newsletter goes out to over 3000
visitors to the site and feedback from visitors suggest that we are significantly
influencing groups' choice of reading matter.
Bookgroup Info launched in July 2002. It is run by Clare Chandler and Irene
Haynes. We have created a 'one-stop shop' for reading groups i.e. somewhere
readers can get ideas, advice and information and buy books.
Over the past three years, our visitor numbers have increased dramatically.
When we started out we were getting 1000 unique visitors to the site every
month and now we are getting up to 3000 a day.
Bookgroup Info was completely redesigned with a generous grant from the
Arts Council to include extra features such as a directory of groups across
the UK.
We employed an expert to design the site to our specifications and we are
entirely responsible for the content. With a small team, we write the reviews
for the featured books on the review page, interview authors and featured
book groups and liaise and communicate with other interested parties such
as libraries, publishers and professional organizations.
We are also attracting increased media attention - we have been interviewed
for Radio 4 Open Book and have been featured in various magazines and newspapers.
This year, we were on the judging panel of the Penguin Orange Broadband
Prize for reading groups.
