Bookgroup of the Month Archive
Every month we feature a different bookgroup. We'd like to hear from other bookgroups. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us about your group. If we choose it we'll send you a book voucher for £10.
Oh My Word, Hereford
Bookgroup of the Month, October 2013
Who are you?We are a group of ladies whose ages range from late 30's to early 70's.
The meetings are relatively informal and light hearted.
The ladies are supportive, warm and welcoming.
We all read the same book then discuss it and leave a brief 1 sentence comment in our note book and give the book a score.
How did you get started?I wanted to get together with ladies for a pleasent evening once a month for a chat and decided that a bookclub was a good opportunity to do this.
How long have you been going?Since October 2012.
Where and how often do you meet?We meet on the last Wednesday of each month at my home.
What sort of books do you read?We have decided not to read any classics.
The bookclub members chose 2 books each at the first meeting, after we had eliminated all that had been previously read by another member we were left with a 12 month reading list, the majority fiction, some entertaining and funny some not!
Which books have provoked the best discussion?Books full of sadness!
What was your worst read?50 Shades of Grey!!!
But it was chosen because everyone was reading it when the bookclub was established and we could all get our hands on a copy before we had completed our reading list, and, it was a good ice breaker.
Some members refused to score it, one lady in her 70's gave it 10 out of 10.
We would love new members to join us.
