Every month we feature a different bookgroup. We'd like to hear from other
bookgroups. Please email us at email@example.com and tell us about your

Chapter and Verse, Derby
Bookgroup of the Month, November 2008
Who are you?
We are a group of 20 - 25 who meet every third Thursday in the month at our local Library. We have now been meeting for over five years. Our age range is from the thirties to the seventies and we are mostly female, with one male member - our local Vicar.
How did you get started?
We got started through the local library but are now running ourselves, with the support of the library services.
How long have you been going?
We started meeting on the 7th March 2002.
Where and how often do you meet?
Every third Thursday in the month, at the local library in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
What sort of books do you read?
A variety, mostly fiction and mostly modern fiction, although we have interspersed these with poetry and classics, autobiography and biography.
Which books have provoked the best discussion?
Small Island by Andrea Levy, The Reader - Bernhard Schlink, Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood.
What was your worst read?
Killing Dragons - Fergus Fleming.
We are about to embark on a new phase of our Readers group, by managing ourselves, due to restructuring of our local library services. We are both sad to lose the involvement of our librarians but excited by the challenge of a new look to our group. We have elected various members of the group to take on various roles and suspect that there will be greater and wider discussion and choices as to our choices of books.
