Henley Literary Festival

The fourth Henley Literary Festival, which takes place from September 29 to October 3, is bigger and better than ever.
Appearances from the likes of Melvyn Bragg, Antonia Fraser and Craig Brown are among the 100 events held throughout the town at a range of venues including the Kenton Theatre and the River and Rowing Museum.
The Festival has quickly become established as a one of the country's leading literary events among authors and publishers, as well as audiences that continue to increase. This year's star-studded cast includes Alexei Sayle, Max Hastings, Penelope Lively, Gervase Phinn, Andrew O'Hagan, Stephen Berkoff, Lionel Shriver and Simon Kernick.
The world of Westminster is represented by Shirley Williams, Chris Mullin and Will Hutton.
Everyone is catered for, ranging from events for youngsters in the Children's Festival and workshops aimed at would-be writers. The hugely popular River Readings return with Love Letters and War Poetry featuring as themes on the boats that cruise down the Thames.

Guildford Book Festival
14-23 October 2010
They promise another exciting and varied programme of events between 14 – 23 October featuring many of Britain’s finest writers and personalities including writer and comedian Arthur Smith, BBC broadcaster Bill Turnbull, leading historian Dan Cruickshank, comedienne Jenny Eclair (who will be headlining Girls’ Night – details below), actors Steven Berkoff and Ron Moody, designer and TV presenter Kevin McCloud and Katie Fforde and Adele Parks who will be doing a Literary Lunch.
The ever popular Readers’ Day which celebrates fiction will be happening on 16 October and features among others Barbara Nadel, Michelle Paver, Barbara Erskine, John Harding, Dorothy Koomson, Clare Morrall and Chris Fowler. It offers a great opportunity to meet the authors and discover ideas for reading and writing – early booking is definitely advised!
As always, the Festival also embraces a whole host of other subjects including crime, history, cookery and biography. There will also be a Festival Quiz and, for the first time ever, a Book Swap. As in previous years, workshops on a range of topics will feature in the programme including ones on writers’ block and crime writing.
