Ashes

by Sergios Gakas

More Euro noir this month with an excellent Greek thriller set in Athens round the time of the 2004 Olympics. Police Colonel Chronis Halkidis and lawyer Simeon Piertzovanis are “a loser drunkard and coked-up cop fighting the forces of darkness” in a story of murder and corruption at the highest level. The two are united in their fight for justice because each has a past with the enigmatic and beautiful victim Sonia Varika. This novel is extremely dark – and extremely gripping.

Sergios Gakas, born in Athens in 1957, studied drama in Paris and has been working as a theatre director in Greece since 1979. ASHES is his first novel to be translated into English.
